Inside The Most Eccentric Neighborhood in Los Angeles: Venice

Image
I think all I can tell you about Venice doesn’t describe the ambiance and eccentricity that invades this unique neighborhood in Los Angeles . Last June, I’ve visited the city for the second time. I knew for sure what I wanted to visit and where I wanted to walk. Venice was definitely on the top of my list. During my first visit, I spent just a few hours there and I could see several people at the beach riding a bike. So, without thinking twice and knowing that it would be difficult to move around the cyclists, I went to rent a bike in Santa Monica , where I was staying. I rented it for 4 hours and it was quite an experience. The breeze on my face, the beach on both sides of the bike lane, hundreds of people skating, walking, juggling; dogs playing in the grass and an aspiring female surfer, training on the sand, caught my attention. I’m from a big city that has no beach so here I felt so good that I wished I could live here for a while. In 20 minutes, I was in V

Sleeping in a Lighthouse in California

Image
During my 10 day trip through the U.S. as one of the winners of Big Blog Exchange , one of the experiences I remember the most is my stay at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse , in San Francisco Bay. Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places I have ever seen.  A landmark with something special. You feel it once you get to the park and see the lighthouse, a historic monument that today is still working and giving light to ships approaching the stunning coast of California . It's just one hour from the city of San Francisco on Highway 1. Open your eyes, because while driving, you can enjoy the entire San Francisco Bay , its beaches, cliffs and greenery. To my surprise, not only I was able to enjoy a unique place, but I was able to sleep in the hostel located in small houses that form the lighthouse ,   formerly workers' houses. This hostel is part of  Hostelling International  and represents one of the historic hostels maintained by the organization and r

Travel to Kenya: Amboseli National Park

Image
Amboseli National Park is located in the Rift Valley Province in Kenya . Its area is more than 390 square kilometers and it's close to Tanzania's border. It was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1991. One of the images of this park par excellence, is Mount Kilimanjaro, which can be seen at dawn on days without fog. That is perhaps the symbol of the park, along with his most famous animal: the elephant. No doubt the Amboseli National Park is the best place to monitor these giant pachyderms. Moving in herds across the savannah, their structure and hierarchy is evident: Females first, followed by males. They are not aggressive unless disturbed, and cross the park every day. Their biggest handicap is their sense of sight, but his their hearing is highly developed. For me, there is no greater satisfaction than being able to find dozens of families of elephants with their young. Even coming face to face with this huge mammal watching us suspiciously. I

I s time to cross something off the list! Always mindful of the destination you'll visit and the season , as it's not the same packing for Thailand where you have to wear light clothes that the luggage you would take if you travel  to Iceland .
